I LOVE a Lake District Wedding. And this was my first visit (first of many more I hope!) to the Embleton Spa Hotel in Cockermouth.
Laura and Mike’s wedding day was out of this world. When we first met for their wedding photography consultation, I remember seeing amazing art-work on the wall, created by Mike! And Laura was telling me all about their wedding plans. Intimate, summery and in the Lake District, with lots of games for their two boys (and let’s face it…the adults too…) and some stunning personal touches. A beautiful and artistic couple with a clear vision for their wedding day – I could not WAIT!
And when the big day finally arrived, I was certainly not left disappointed.
On the morning of the wedding, the drizzle was making the warm air humid, and it looked as if it might be set in for the day. But then something quite amazing happened.
Upon my arrival, Mike had a quiet word with me about the most AMAZING surprise he had planned for Laura. (OH my gosh… I so badly wanted to tell!)
‘Please can you get her to come out on to the balcony in 5 minutes?’ he asked.
To this day, I wonder if Laura thought me the strangest wedding photographer ever.
‘But I’ve got no make-up on! And my hair isn’t done! Are you sure you want photo’s out here now? I’m still in my pyjamas!’ she said.
Then out of nowhere, a guitar starts to play. And there was Mike, below the balcony. And he began to sing. It was the most heartwarming thing I have ever seen.
And then…. the sun came out! And it stayed out for the rest of the day.
After their beautiful wedding ceremony, Laura, Mike and all of their wedding guests, came back to a delicious BBQ. With the weather being so glorious, everybody sat outside. Where there were outdoor games, stick-on moustaches (which soon became eyebrows) and Mike and his friends wondered down the grounds for a celebratory cigar. And when the time came to start the speeches, what better way to deliver them, than by standing on the table?!
From beginning to end, there aren’t enough words to describe how sublime their wedding day was.
It was just perfect.
